Dress Up

This is a mixed media piece on Bristol paper.

This was an experimental project, I wanted to kind of let loose and try something different. I knew I wanted to do a portrait of a woman, so I found a reference photo online that resembled the vision that I had in my head. I didn't want the model to portray ideal beauty or what society deems beautiful, I wanted to go for a more relatable and or unique type of beauty. The messy, bold makeup, bright green nail polish, and uneven eyebrows. I wanted her hands to be a little bony and beat up, her face shape to be a bit more masculine, her nose a little crooked, and I wanted her to have wondering eyes.

To begin, I did a quick pencil sketch. After that, I added line work using a black ink pen and then I added some color using watercolor paint. After which, I used a red ink pen to add color line work to the bow. I then got out markers and highlighters to bring in more pops of color to the piece. I wanted to add some bolder colors so, I decided to use acrylic paint for the background and a little bit for the hair. For the final touches, I went in with a fine-point black marker for some definition in the piece.
