Dakota Roberts is an emerging artist from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, now based in Snohomish, WA. She earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Fine Arts from Roger Williams University. After college, she chose to pursue her passion for art full-time.
Dakota’s artistic approach is eclectic. Her primary focus is mixed media, combining aspects of collage and mosaic with acrylic paint to create layered pieces inspired by nature and the environment. She experiments with various mediums and subject matter. She believes in pushing boundaries and avoids confining herself to a specific style or medium, continuously challenging herself with new subjects and techniques.
Dakota creates custom commissions, including pet portraits. She’s currently open for commissions in 2026.
Her long-term goal is to open a gallery that supports new and emerging artists.
Artist Statement
I use techniques drawn from mosaic, collage, and painting to build layered works on canvas using hand-cut pieces of painted paper. I create bright, whimsical, dreamlike works inspired by nature and the world around us.
I think of my work as windows into an exaggerated, playful world, one where color is brighter, forms are more expressive, and ordinary moments can become something magical. Through this lens, I hope to encourage viewers to look at the world with a sense of wonder and whimsy, a more innocent perspective.
My work is deeply influenced by my inner child and my desire to preserve curiosity, imagination, and a sense of possibility that often becomes duller as we age. Nature provides an endless source of inspiration because it invites that same kind of curiosity. A butterfly in flight, an animal sprinting through the field, or the changing colors in the trees can become an opportunity to transform something familiar into something imaginative.
While my mosaic-like mixed media works are my main focus at this time, I enjoy experimenting with different mediums, techniques, and subject matter. I believe that creativity should not be confined to a single style or process, and I continually challenge myself to explore new ways of creating.
Through my work, I hope to create a small escape from the ordinary to a place where color, imagination, and curiosity can take over and remind us to see the world with a little more wonder.
