Santa Fe Pigeon
Mixed Media on 12X16 Gallery Wrapped Canvas
This piece was inspired by a pigeon I rescued in a grocery store parking lot. I was pulling in when I saw four ravens attacking a pigeon. I rolled down my window and shouted at them, and they flew off. The pigeon started crawling toward my car, so I jumped out, wrapped him in a blanket, and scooped him up.
He just stared up at me the whole ride home.
Once we got there, I let him rest in my bathroom. He napped for about an hour, and then I took him outside. Eventually, he flew away. But while we were in the bathroom, he kept flying up to perch on my shoulder.
When creating this piece, I wanted to imagine him in a peaceful, happy place after something so traumatic—perched on a tree in the Santa Fe mountains at sunset, safe and free.
